Abiding by the gas industry’s regulatory framework is an integral aspect of First Gas Limited’s strategic and operating environment.
This means we regularly engage with the:
- Commerce Commission, which regulates First Gas’s gas transmission and distribution businesses.
- Gas Industry Company, which makes recommendations to the Minister of Energy on a wide range of industry matters, including rules and regulations in relation to the wholesale, processing, transmission, distribution and retailing of gas
- Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment, the Treasury, and Ministry for the Environment on broad policy and environmental issues.
- Our stakeholders including some 800 landowners with whom we have easements
First Gas strives to ensure the regulatory environment we work within balances consumer and stakeholder and shareholder interests.
Regulation by the Commerce Commission
As a provider of vital infrastructure with monopoly characteristics, we are regulated by Part 4 of the Commerce Act 1986 and are therefore subject to price-quality path and information disclosure requirements.
