Firstgas is nearing completion of its Gilbert Stream realignment project, which involves moving 370 metres of the high-pressure Maui gas pipeline inland because of the risk posed by coastal erosion. We are also nearing a stage with Project Pariroa where a ~800m bypass of the Maui Pipeline – first installed in 2018 due to a defect discovered in the line – is to be removed and reconnected back into the Maui pipeline.

Our team has identified Auckland Anniversary weekend from the evening of Friday 28 January to early morning on Monday 31 January 2022 to be the ideal time to shut down and reconnect these sections of pipeline at both the Gilbert Stream and Pariroa project sites.  The project will be deferred to the following Waitangi Day long weekend in the event of adverse weather conditions. Firstgas will safely carry out this work over a 55-60 hour period.

With the valued assistance of a few large gas users who will either stop or reduce gas use during the outage period, we will be able to maintain normal supplies to all other industrial, commercial and domestic users.
