While many professional chefs swear by cooking with gas, plenty of Kiwi home chefs love it too. From weeknight dinners to weekend feasts, natural gas delivers fast, precise heat and the control that makes cooking more enjoyable at home.

Stainless steel gas cooktops can sometimes get a bad rap when it comes to cleaning, but keeping yours looking great is easier than you might think. With a few simple steps, you can have your cooktop sparkling clean and ready for whatever’s next on the menu.

Before you start

Make sure the cooktop has completely cooled. Once cool, switch off the power to the appliance so you can clean safely and thoroughly.

Take it apart

Remove the grates, knobs, burner caps and burner heads. Take note of where each piece belongs so reassembly is quick and easy once everything is clean and dry.

Wash removable parts

Wash the knobs, burner caps and burner heads in warm, soapy water. Use a gentle detergent and a plastic scouring pad to remove any burnt-on food or grease. Rinse well and dry thoroughly to avoid water marks or residue.

Clean the cooktop surface

Wipe down the stainless steel surface using a soft, damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or harsh scrubbing tools as these can scratch the surface. Dry with a soft cloth to restore the shine.

Put it back together

Once all parts are completely dry, reassemble the cooktop, making sure everything is positioned correctly. This helps ensure safe and efficient operation.

Don’t forget the rangehood

For best results, make sure your rangehood filter is clean too. Remove the filter and soak it in warm, soapy water, then scrub with a scouring pad to remove built-up grease. Rinse, dry and replace. A clean filter helps your rangehood perform at its best and keeps your kitchen fresher.

With regular care, your gas cooktop will stay clean, efficient and looking great, so you can spend less time cleaning and more time enjoying cooking with gas at home.
